Out of the Darkness
Winter Lantern Procession 2025
“Wings, Wheels, Water”
We are getting ready to start making lanterns for this year’s winter lantern celebration. Our first Lantern Making Workshop is on Sunday, January 26th at the Salmon Arm Arts Centre (see left column). We bring the materials and share techniques for making lanterns that will be used during the Winter Lantern Procession.
This year’s lantern procession theme called “Wings, Wheels, Water” is about transportation. We will be celebrating all the ways we get around and thinking about how we can make our footprints lighter together.
We are excited to bring our lantern making to some local schools and community groups.
The Out of the Darkness Lantern Procession and Shadow Show is planned for Sunday, February 16th starting around 7pm at the Maud Street Parking lot, walking along the Riverwalk and finishing at the Riverside Campground in Enderby for a shadow show.

Out of the Darkness
Winter Lantern Procession 2024
On the evening of February 18, Enderby Riverwalk was lit up with a procession of lanterns created for “Out of the Darkness” Lantern Procession and show. It was a welcome sight to look forward to in these dark days. There were many surprises along the way.
There were plenty of (free) opportunities to make lanterns in Enderby at Foxglove and Fir, in Armstrong at PV BLVD Coffee and at the Salmon Arm Arts Centre
Lanterns were made by students at Shihaya, Grindrod, MV Beattie, AL Fortune and Heartwood Schools, at Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn Teaching Centre, and at Enderby Towers.
Last year our celebration focused on Home. Folks made lanterns of their own homes, of their ideal homes, of a home designed for others, of a place that felt like at home. Large collaborations happened to make some local buildings in our community.
Thank you for community support from Twice But Nice Thrift Store, The Enderby Lions, and Backus Septic Services.
Thank you to BC Gaming and the Government of Canada for funding towards this project.
Thank you to all our lantern making participants and all the folks who joined us for this lovely event.
